canadian vs. kiwi

I thought I would do a post all about the different words and sayings from Canadian to Kiwi lingo.

So here are a couple that I can think of:

Candy is called Lollies.
To Phone Someone would be to Ring someone.
A [horse/sheep] ranch is called a Station.
Gas Station is a Petrol station.
Garbage is Rubbish.
Supper is Tea.
A snack in the evening would be called Supper. [those two can become confusing!]
Your House would be your Flat.
Swimming Suits.Swimwear is called Togs.
To move [living arrangements] is called To Shift.
Rubber Boots are called Gum boots.
The Hood of a car is called a Bonnet! haha
A Kiwi would be a New Zealander.
The kiwi we think of is called a Kiwi Fruit here.
A Pie is mostly used for referring to Meat Pie. Unless you specifically say Fruit Pie, here they think of meat pie.

Right-i-oh then, that's about all the ones I can think of. Hope you thought that was fun.

that's great and all, but we still want to see a picture of a toliet flowing backwards. Give the people what they want!

That was so funny! I enjoy that. Jeanette just adds all of those in her conversation yet I have no clue what she is saying. Things can get confusing around the world. I miss ya!!

Eating lollies in your gum's after tea makes perfect.....no sense! Ha! And driving on the wrong side of the road is just not good for your health!
Viva la difference!

yea it's pretty funny to hear them talk like that, plus with their accents, i really have no idea what they are saying sometimes. good times good times.

i will get a pic of a toilet, i am telling you, they don't flush the same as in canada. it pretty much goes straight down.

Cassie! I love you! (Just in case you were wondering) Hearing all those things takes me back to days when i hung out with british people. the other day i said "windscreen" instead of windshield, and russ laughed at me. I say things like overtake (instead of pass) and duel carriageway all the time too. what a fun world. I LOVE your pictures too. Thanks for posting them.
